As if news of the two-year-long closure of a major connector ramp near the Galleria wasn’t enough, the Texas Department of Transportation announced the closure of another major highway on Houston’s southeast side slated for this weekend.

Workers will close the northbound lanes of East Loop 610 at Texas Highway 225 starting Friday evening for road work. The closure will last through early Monday morning, according to TxDOT. A spokesperson for the state agency did not return requests for details on the work.

The closure will surely cause headaches for unsuspecting drivers on East Loop 610 over the weekend. TxDOT did not provide an official detour, but drivers should be able to exit Texas Highway 225 westbound to Broadway Street. After exiting, drivers can turn north on Broadway, east on Manchester Street and then south on 92nd Street in the Harrisburg community where they can merge back onto East Loop 610 northbound.

The closure will last for the weekend, unlike the other major traffic disruption on the city’s west side. Workers there will close the connector ramp from I-69 southbound to West Loop 610 southbound for the next two years as they work to rebuild the northbound West Loop 610 main lanes and reconstruct a new connector ramp.

The two closures aren’t part of the same project but will both plague drivers on Loop 610.
