Leaders of the “Take Action: Stop Gun Violence” event call for Texas lawmakers to pass gun safety legislation as soon as possible.
Texas teachers against gun violence are planning to rally in front of Sen. Ted Cruz’s office one week after the mass shooting occurred in Uvalde. After the shooting, the Texas senator told Fox News that he wants to heighten school security with bulletproof doors, glass, and armed police officers, not enforce gun restrictions in Texas.
“Sen. Cruz’s response to the Uvalde shooting has been abominable,” the Texas American Federation of Teachers stated in its event release. “…Cruz’s response to the slaughter of children – pushing for more armed school staff – is not only opposed by a vast majority of teachers but also is an illogical idea that has not proven to be effective.”
