Travis Scott to perform at his first post-Astroworld festival

2 min read

Rapper Travis Scott is scheduled to headline his first music festival one day after the first anniversary of the 2021 Astroworld tragedy in Houston where a stampede resulted in 10 deaths, hundreds more injured, and hundreds of lawsuits.

Spanish concert promoter Primavera Sound announced on Wednesday its lineup of three music festivals in South America, which each include Scott, 30, as a headlining performer. The Houston native is expected to perform at Primavera Sound Sao Paulo on Nov. 6; Primavera Sound Buenos Aires on Nov. 12; and Primavera Sound Santiago de Chile on Nov. 13.

This year is the festival’s first time being held in South America, having previously called Barcelona home. The performances follow Scott pulling out from Day N Vegas in November and the 2022 Coachella Music and Arts Festival removing him from its lineup following Astroworld. TMZ reported that Scott will allegedly be announcing three U.S. festival appearances soon.

Astroworld is still under investigation by Houston Police and the FBI. The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform is also conducting a separate investigation into concert promoter Live Nation’s role in the tragedy.

Ten fans, including a 9-year-old, died from injuries they sustained after getting crushed in a crowd surge at the Houston concert on Nov. 5, 2021, which 50,000 people attended. A medical examiner later ruled that the concert goers died from compression asphyxia.

Last week, Scott appeared on his first widely-released track and music video since the tragedy, collaborating on the song “Hold That Heat” alongside 808 Mafia producer Southside and rapper Future. He also teased his next album “Utopia” with billboards that went up around California earlier this month.

Scott has publicly addressed the tragedy in an initial apology video, in a sit-down interview, and during his announcement in March of his philanthropic campaign, Project Heal.

“Over the past few months, I’ve been taking the time and space to grieve, reflect and do my part to heal my community,” Scott wrote via Instagram. “Most importantly, I want to use my resources and platform moving forward towards actionable change. This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family.”

Primavera Sound did not immediately respond to a request for comment about security measures in place as Scott takes the stage.
